Baaad MOH!

Yes, I've been a bad MOH. Have not been updating this blog since I first started it. Don't think I contributed much to the wedding planning as well yet. Reason is, I've been really busy at work. Will try to be a more rajin MOH from now on ;)

Quick updates:
~ The bride-to-be has had her wedding pics taken at Sipadan over Christmas. She's been releasing sneak peeks to us [the bridesmaids], tantalizing our curiosity
~ The bride-to-be is still on the hunt for 'THE DRESS'. She's been sending us bridesmaids pics of ALL the dresses she's tried on so far. I think her mission every weekend till she finds 'THE DRESS' is to go dress-hunting. I've been on 1 'hunt' with her a couple months back
~ The bridesmaids dress design is more or less settled. Waiting to meet the tailor
~ Planning of the ROM is under way. Venue has been identified. Need to sit down with Chief Bridesmaid aka Lady de Boracay to iron out the details
*P/S: If you're wondering what's up with the title 'Lady de Boracay', it'll be revealed in my next post
~ Sat through a meeting with the hotel wedding planners with the bride-to-be for an initial discussion on the wedding dinner planning. Learnt a lot about weddings and wedding planning during that short meeting. Main take away from the meeting: Wedding = MONEY!!!!!
~ Had the first bridesmaids gathering at Vintry a month back. It was a fun night, filled with laughter, crispy 'siew yuk' and wine

That's all for now. I'll leave you guys with some pics from the Vintry gathering aka the 'Pre Hen's Night Hen's Night' [yes, you read it right ~ Pre Hen's Night Hen's Night. This is not a typo] courtesy of the Duchess of Great Wall [lovely pics, Jen. Thanks for being the official photographer of the night]:
The 'Save the Date' card was distributed to us that night
 The bride-to-be
The bride-to-be and all the bridesmaids
The yummy 'siew yuk'. It's seriously very good. Trust me.
No, we're not a bunch of alcoholics. Don't be deceived by this pic.

Meeting #1

I met up with Lil J aka bestie aka the bride-to-be the weekend after she got proposed to. As we were walking towards the restaurant for lunch, I noticed she had a book in her hand. I was wondering why she brought a book along. After settling at a table, my question was answered. Lil J passed the book [which was tied-up prettily with a ribbon] to me and said "For you."

It's a guide book on how to be a bridesmaid/ maid-of-honor. It seemed she had been eyeing the book at the bookstore for quite some time, but didn't have the excuse to buy it till now... Hmmmm... Do I have a potential bridezilla on my hands?
After oohing and aahing at her ring and listening to the 'proposal story', we got straight into discussing the basic things to start working on. I've got a list of about 9 things to do, mostly to do with getting contacts and quotes for flowers, dresses, etc. But before I can do anything, I think it's important I know her budget and when/where she will tie the knot.

First meeting already 9 to-dos... Think I'd better get myself a diary to jot things down. Don't want to be forgetting important items, dates, etc.

How This Blog Came About

Unlike most girls, I've never dreamt about my wedding when I was growing up. Hence, I'm absolutely clueless when it comes to this most important event in a girl's life. So, when my recently engaged best friend appointed me as her 'Maid-of-Honor', my first reaction was panic.

Though I feel honored to be chosen as her right-hand-girl, I have never played an active role in organizing a wedding from A to Z, and know nothing about where to start, what the Maid of Honor is supposed to do, etc, etc. I'm not the most traditional person around, which makes it even worse when it comes to traditional and customary ceremonies. Nevertheless, I took on the challenge [how can you say no to your bestie of 23 years?!] and will do the best I can to fulfill my duties as Maid-of-Honor and help my best friend organize the wedding of her dreams.

I thought it'd be a great idea to document my journey down the aisle as a first time Maid-of-Honor as I learn what to do [and not do] on organizing a wedding. I'm sure the learning experience will be filled with fun, joy, laughter, tears, stress and frustration, and hopefully, it will strengthen the bond between my bestie and I, as well as allowing me to get to know her and myself at a deeper level.

Hopefully when the entire affair is over, and when I re-visit the entries of this blog, it'll bring back sweet memories of the following one and a half years.

Wish me luck!
